Plenary Session: Regulatory, Policy, and Societal Challenges of Psychedelics and the Path Forward

With a history of prohibition and being associated with "counterculture" icon, psychedelic drugs are entering a new or revived area of investigation as a treatment option when paired with psychotherapy for depression, anxiety, etc. However, this resurgence is not without challenges and hurdles to overcome related to trial design, use of psychotherapy as a source of bias, how science typically measures objective evidence, and balancing the risk profile. Additionally, there e specific challenges related to funding, policy decisions, and societal norms. Even so, meeting research where it is today, global regulators have put forward various guidance, but many opportunities still remain.
